Photos of Constantine Bay Cornwall
Click on a photo for much a higher quality version. About Constantine BayConstantine Bay is located about three and half miles west of Padstwo off the B3276. There is a small village which is popular with holiday makers as it is close to a succession of fine sandy beaches that can be found on either side of Trevose Head. The beach at Constantine Bay is defined by the low headlands and rocky islands that head out to sea. Sand dunes that back the beach are covered with marram grass and tamarisk shrubs and through these dunes runs the South West Coast Path on its way northwards to Trevose head. At low tide rocks pools appear inhabited by battalions of tiny crabs and even some the size of side plates.Constantine Bay was recommended in the Marine Conservation Authority Good Beach Guide in 2006 and also has the Encams Seaside Award for 2006. Amenities are limited, there is a very small public car park with public toilets. And some other free parking a distance from the beach, this can make the approach road liable to congestion. Constantine stores and surf shop is at the top of the road on the approach to the beach. Constantine Bay is a dog friendly beach all year round but please keep your dog under control and please clean up after your dog. The Bay is a very popular surfing destination and can produce top quality waves in the North Cornwall area. There is a reef at the southern end of the bay that works through the tide depending on swell size. At times there can be dangerous rips and the beach shelves quickly at high tide and only experienced surfers should attempt to surf . Lifeguards patrol the beach from May 20th till September 24th, and over the 2006 Easter Break from the 14th - 17th April inclusive. Apparently Constantine Bay was a favourite holiday venueof Margaret Thatcher during her premiership |
