About Kennall Vale Nature ReserveIdeal for a picturesque woodland walk Kennall Vale is the site of a former gunpowder works which was established in the early 19th century. The remains of the gunpowder works are scattered throughout the reserve and include mills, leats and other buildings. The production of gunpowder ceased in the area in 1910. Kennall Vale also has an abandoned granite quarry.Kennall Vale represents the best-preserved gunpowder works in south-west Britain. Parking can be a problem at Kennall vale an as such it is recommended to park further down the road and walk up. Directions:- Turn off the A393 at the post office in Ponsanooth follow the road past the post office. Keep on this road without turning off, as you ascend the hill the road narrows. There is a sign for Kennall Vale is on the right. This is private and not the entrance to the nature reserve. Just past this entrance is another smaller entrance with a private house just inside. This is the start of the footpath to Kennall Vale Nature Reserve. A small sign is on the wall near the entrance but is only really possible to see when on foot. |
