Gorran Haven near Mevagissey
Getting ready for the start of the ladies race.
Cornish gig racing at Gorran Haven. A gig is made from Cornish Elm, and is 32 foot long by 4 foot 3" across its beam. It has 8 thwarts or seats. One of the seats is for the coxswain, six seats for the rowers and there is a "seagull" seat in the bow. The rowers sit alternately along the boat, three on the stroke side and three on the bow side.
