Cot Valley near St. Just
Porth Nanven cove the direction of the valley means that you will find flat calm water for 200 to 300m offshore, even in a north-east gale.
Porth Nanven is also referred to as the Dinosaur Egg Beach, which is so called because of a remarkable deposit of round boulders covering the beach and foreshore. These boulders come in all sizes, up to a metre or more in length, and have proved so tempting as souvenirs for the garden etc. that they are now legally protected by the National Trust.
People assume that these rounded shaped boulders are the work of the sea, but they are in fact the product of glacial activity.
